Question

Hello,

I create funeral urns and I am recently interested in Buddhism. I would like to know a little better the course of a Buddhist funerary ceremony in particular to know if ashes are given in a urn, are they particular? Which are the rituals practised in France and in modern societies in general at the time of the incineration?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Sincerely,
Nadege

Answer from Master Kosen

In Japan, the ceremony takes place before the incineration in front of the open coffin until the setting of the body in the incinerator, during the incineration people drink and eat something and when it is finished they return and recover what remains of the bones of the corps. The heat of the furnaces is less than in occident and the bones are not reduced into powder. The bones are puts in urns or boxes two by two with chopsticks, like the chopsticks for eating. The urns are a priori normal.
