Question

Why practice ? What worries me, that is the "why" of practice .. and the "why" of all things. Everything appears to me vain. When we will be dead, you and me, I doubt that your corpse will be better than mine; I doubt that you will go in some paradise where I will not go. Then why practice ? Tell me, please, in what I am wrong in asking the question this way.

Respectfully yours. Dragan.

Answer from Master Kosen

Practice for nothing without expecting anything, no result, no reward, it is the true zen of Buddhas. "Mushotoku". In general, it is at that stage that ordinary man abandons practice and it is at this stage that Buddha begins.

Motivation

Master Kosen, Some people have an innate motivation and need little effort to practice, while for others, it is just the other way round. How can one develop a strong motivation? Thanks.

In ku there is no matter, no perception, no feeling, no action and no consciousness There is no color, no sound, no smell, no taste, no thought. There is no knowledge, no ignorance, no illusion, no cessation of illusion There is no birth, no death, no suffering, no cessation of suffering. There is no profit, no loss.
